PET FOOD RECALLS: MAY 7TH, 2012

In the past couple of weeks, there have been a large number of pet food recalls and “voluntary withdrawals”. This has been largely due to “potential salmonella contamination”. Salmonella can be dangerous for your pet. It is likely to cause decreased appetite, fevers and abdominal pains. Untreated, those symptoms can turn into lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, higher fevers, and vomiting.

A pet can be infected, but otherwise healthy, acting as a carrier that can infect other animals or humans. You may also contract salmonella through contact with contaminated products. So this is an important recall to be aware of, for the sake of you and your pet’s health!

Many brands have been affected, including Taste of the Wild, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul, Natural Balance, Wellness, Canidae Dog, Diamond, and Kirkland Signature.
