A COCKAPOO STORY: SAM & BENJIE

I have 2 Cockapoos: Sam, 6, and Benjie, 4. We got Sam when he was 12 weeks old, our first dog. He was a present from my brother in law for my son’s 13th birthday. He is one of the happiest, mellow and lovable dogs.

About 3 1/2 years ago I went to a pet store for some supplies, with Sam. We met this family with a 4-month old adorable puppy, Benjie. We chatted for a while and the conversation turned to training. We worked with a professional trainer when Sam was about six months old. The results were great and I gave his name to the woman, using one of my business cards to write on (I usually do not hand out my business cards unless it’s business related.)
About 5 weeks after, I received phone call from the woman. Her husband was being transferred abroad and they could not take the puppy. She asked if we would be interested or knew of someone who could give him a good home. My wife and I discussed this (argued) for two days. I finally said my birthday was coming up and this is the gift I want. They brought Benjie to us the next day.

I have to say he was really traumatized and scared when they left. It took about 3 days for him to trust us and finally relax. Since that day he and Sam have been inseparable! When they get groomed they have to be in the same holding pen, and must be able to see each other. They are the unofficial Mayors of our town since everyone knows them and us…Sam and Benjie’s Family. They are well trained, behaved and just the best companions!

They truly are man’s best friend.
